I started watching Koutetsu Sangokushi, and it took me about 2 episodes and the assistance of Wikipedia to find out that its characters are based off of the historical novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The anime is pretty interesting, which was a surprise to me since I wasn't really expecting anything. The fact that it reminds me of Dynasty Warriors is also a plus (which reminds me, I need to catch up on those Sengoku Basara episodes...) I'll update more about it after I finish the series though.
All I really wanted to say was that I despise technology. And you ask, why would I, a new media student who is currently studying web development, ever hate the very thing that comprises not only my future career but also my current internship, especially since I spend most of my waking hours on a computer? Well, let me tell you. I just spent $70 because online shopping is so fucking easy that it's ridiculous. At least with the books I bought I saved some money, especially the last group of volumes; I saved about $25, but still. I need to save money and the easiness that comes with today's technology just makes it that much harder. I hate you, online shopping. I really do.
But I suppose something good came out of it. I do really need to get back into reading books. I haven't fully enjoyed a book since middle school, and I'm already supposed to be a senior in college (erm, yeah, according to the credits I currently have, that's not happening). My use of vocabulary and my way of speech is really shitty compared to what it should be like as a university student. I'm going to try and read better material, sans the 2/3 of the previously mentioned order I placed consisting of books that are meant to entertain rather than heighten my intellect :P
THIS ENTRY CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR Gun X Sword.
So, I was watching Gun X Sword and I just realized how fucking convenient everything turned out after episode 12. Van turns into some psycho and somehow manages to defeat his friend even though he had trouble defeating him, like, 5 minutes ago. And then the other dude, Ray, gets in touch with his psychotic side and goes crazy. The only sane ones are Carmen99 and Marie. I would include Joshua, but the kid fucking stepped in front of a bullet and saved the man his brother was trying to kill. Like, wtf Joshua? I knew you were annoying and a little bit stupid, but I didn't realize you had a fucking mental problem that inhibited you from being able to know what common sense fucking was.
Seriously, what the fuck is up with this series?
I'm super pissed right now, I don't even give a crap about how many times I've used the F-word in this damn entry.
I really like the video though, better than the "dance" version, which is like "WTF is Sungmin wearing" and "Is he going to jump out of an airplane and use those pants as a flotation device?" The fact that it's a continuous shot, where they don't stop and change scenes/clothes/etc is awesome. I'm a big fan of videos like that, but it takes a lot of hard work on everyone's part (not just the performers). This might be one of my favorite Suju music videos :D
I still haven't been able to catch up with the Suju fandom of watching shows, listening to their music nonstop, fangirling online, and basically having my life revolve around them like usual, but maybe during the weekend I can get back into it.
I've recently been watching Gun X Sword, which didn't seem all that great when I first started watching it, but it's been growing on me with it's cliched-ness. Van is cool, but that girl...
Anyway, the story is alright. I'll go in more depth once I actually finish the series. I'm downloading it off IRC which kind of sucks because there's queueing and shit and you can only queue 5 files at a time T__T but I suppose that makes sense since it would be stupid to have one person queue like, fucking, 100 files which are all over 200MB and then have everyone else wait for the bastard to finish downloading. Although channels usually send more than 1 file at a time, but only for unique users (not the same person).
Another series I'm watching is Trigun. Remember when it used to be on Cartoon Network before? I forget if it was on Adult Swim or not, but I decided to watch it just so I can finally finish the damn series and watch it in chronological order. Jumping around episodes doesn't really help me, though the same thing happened when I was watching The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I still haven't figured out what the hell that anime was about. Were the episodes supposed to be out of order or was it just the version that I downloaded?
Well, Trigun is alright. Vash is kind of weird, but I find I enjoy watching the Japanese-dub rather than the English one because Meril/Meryll(?) is annoying as hell in English, and only slightly less so in Japanese. Same goes for all women in anime, I've discovered.
Oh, and I was also getting into Gankutsuou, but I'm not sure when I'll be finishing that one. The way they overlayed the actual series with these patterns to enhance the imagery of it was kind of cool in the beginning, but somehow I still find it a bit distracting :\ I'll see how much it sucks later though. I want to finish it because I already downloaded it all AND burned it off on DVDs lol.
A short summary by me (contains spoilers for Ep.1):
The series basically tells the story of a boy named Takashi Natsume who has the ability to see youkai. Through a series of events, he stumbles upon a youkai named Madara who mentions the yuujinchou, or "Book of Friends." Takashi had inherited the book, along with a few other possessions, from his late grandmother, Reiko, whom he never knew, though he was able to learn that she could see youkai as well. Madara tells him that the yuujinchou is a book containing the names of youkai that Reiko has defeated, who took their names as proof of their submission. Takashi, being the kind-hearted kid he is, doesn't feel it was right to take away their names and, thus, takes it upon himself to return all the names of the youkai in the yuujinchou.
All in all it was a pretty good series. I liked it a lot, save for the fact that Natsume can be pretty naive when it comes to dealing with youkai, and people too, but I didn't really start getting annoyed by that until the end of the second series.
If you've watched Tactics or Mushishi before, this series is sort of a mix of both of those, except without a gorgeous Haruka to look at or a cool mushi master. So, really, I guess it's not like Mushishi, but the way the stories are told is sort of the same. Natsume helps youkai, youkai's story is somehow told through a series of events, and then there's some kind of conclusion. Of course, if you've watched Mushishi, you know that Ginko doesn't help the mushi, he helps the people effected by them. And in Tactics, Kantarou is excorcising the youkai, although he does have a helpful sidekick, Haruka, who happens to be a youkai and there's that whole
All in all, this series is definitely worth watching a second time.
My rating:
9.5/10
Pandora Hearts is alright. I was wondering why people were so into it... it's sort of like an AU D.Gray-Man or something. And everybody loves D.Gray-Man so I guess it was only a matter of time before they liked Pandora Hearts too.
I also finished reading Rustblaster finally. I had originally started reading that around the same time as Vampire Knight (a series which I haven't been reading because Yuuki pisses me off... stupid shoujo manga) and I didn't get around to finishing it until now. The ending sort of reminded me of Parade, though I doubt they were copied from each other.
I watched up till episode 11 of Blassreiter. The anime is alright. The animation for all the car/mecha sequences reminded me of Intial D, which isn't a bad thing or anything. I actually thought it was pretty cool. Storyline is a bit... ehh... but it's licensed in America by FUNimation, I think, so you can guess that it's the type of anime that nerdy people who watch Adult Swim want to see. And I know it will only be shown on Adult Swim because there are a couple scenes with sexual implications (and by "implications" I mean that they don't show anything, but it's pretty clear what they're doing lol). I was surprised at that bit, but at the same time it made me laugh. I mean, dude, the chick with the green hair, really? Could she be anymore of an evil, slutty bitch?
I think that's all for now. I'll start reading Kuroshitsuji later. I've found that I don't like watching an anime series unless I've caught up on the manga, so that's why I've been holding off on watching those series. Hopefully Kuroshitsuji is good. Pandora Hearts was kind of a letdown, not too much, I mean it's still interesting, but it really reminds me of D.Gray-Man and the main character isn't nearly as interesting, although I do like his sadistic tendencies towards Gil.
I FINISHED READING LOVELY COMPLEX FINALLY. BWAHAHAHAHA.
One of my only favorite shoujo series :)
And I also caught up on Perfect Girl Evolution. Ahh, the manga-ka is such a tease with her writing! Just when I thought everything was falling into place, there was a fucking curve ball. Still a good series though. It's entertaining enough so I can't complain about it too much, even if it does make me want to punch a certain character in the face.
Why isn't anyone scanlating FIVE anymore T___T I want to read it. It's at 10 volumes and still ongoing, and people have only scanlated up till volume 6! I wish I could understand Korean. DAMMIT.
I also caught up on Gintama episodes (ep.98 and 99 killed me) and I downloaded the last episode of Tokyo Majin 2, which had me smiling the entire episode (er, most of it anyway) until I got to the end and then I was sad. Stupid anime. Stupid ending. Damn you, Tatsuma. Damn youuuuuuu~~~~~
The rest of Nabari no Oh has also been downloaded. I wonder what manga chapter they're up to now. I think I left off on ch.53, but I'm not sure how far the anime goes in with the manga. I doubt it's up that far, but you never know considering what happens around ch.50 (just remembering it makes me want to kill someone).
On my To-do(wnload) list, I still have 07-Ghost (I was reading the manga a long time ago so I'll probably have to re-read the few chapters I had and then catch up with the rest), Pandora Hearts (I have NO F-ING CLUE what this is about, but I keep hearing about it), Gundam 00 and its sequel (just because), Jigoku Shoujo 3 (since I have the first two series), and several others. I also need to catch up on Bleach and Naruto Shippuuden, two of the longest running series in my fucking life. Naruto is long just because it had that first, 220-episode long series, and then a fucking sequel that is still ongoing if I am not mistaken and the world hasn't somehow ended and Hell still remains to be unfrozen.
And did I really stop downloading Code Geass R2 halfway through and forget to get the rest of the episodes? WTF.
Next week is finals and shit. I'm stocking up on anime to make me feel better when I do realize that I failed all my classes :D YAYZ.
Like I've said previously, I finished watching the anime series Baccano! not too long ago. Since then I've also finished Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpuchou: Tou, but I'll update with that after I finish the sequel :) Anyway, onto the sucky review that's not really a review but I'll call it that because it sounds better than my random rants and raves.
The art for this anime was alright. Many of the scenes were really dark, but maybe it was just my sucky computer. And to think I actually wanted to see more blood! I think what I like most about the anime though was the acting and the storyline. One thing that some people will probably want to murder the producers for is the time-jumping. Throughout the entirety of the series (13 episodes), you continuously jump back and worth between 1930 and 1932 (and maybe some other years too, I forgot). If you're not that good at taking in events and being able to sort them out in your head, then maybe you shouldn't watch this because you'll just get confused. I even got a little confused at the end (I stopped paying attention every time it showed a date on the screen, haha), but even without that you'll probably enjoy the series.
Yes, unfortunately, it's definitely one of those series you can't skip through and still be able to figure out the plot. You actually have to watch this one to understand what's going on.
Alright, now onto the story. I'm going to be straying away from spoilers because I think spoilers suck (they do, a lot), but I'll tell you a bit about the plot. Just not too much ;)
Baccano! is, in its simplest form, a story about immortals. There's this jibberish about alchemy and science, mafia wars, and a trainride that goes horribly wrong. But, in the end, it's about a struggle for immortality and power. And I'm not talking about gods and deities, I'm referring to humans who drank some magic potion (given to them by some demon who remains faceless) and who gain eternal life. They're not immortal in the sense of vampires. If you shoot one of them, they'll "die," but moments later their blood, limbs, bones, or whatever it was that they lost will come rushing back into place (see screencap above for reference), thus reviving them again. Yes, this anime is pretty gruesome, so don't watch it while eating if you have a weak stomach for these things. I can eat in almost any situation, but even I got a little grossed out when I was eating my lunch and watching it, haha. The immortals are given some pretty awesome powers, too (again, not in the sense of vampires, although Vino is pushing it...)
As for the characters, my favorite has to be Luck Gandor. He's practically the only person (no, he might just be the only person) whose name I remember clearly. The rest of the characters have some weirdass names, except for Ladd Russo, because I find his name really easy to remember. And Ennis doesn't have a last name, so her's is easy as well. Anyway, back to Luck. I just like his voice lol. Simple as that (thank you, Koyasu Takehito! :DD) He's actually dubbed for a lot of series. And when I say "a lot," I honestly mean it. He did some for Hellsing, Soul Eater, Samurai Deeper Kyo, Samurai Champloo, Gintama, and Ouran High School Host Club just to name a few.
I honestly thought that I would hate at least some of the girls in this series (it never fails with me, I'm biased), but I don't think I came across a girl that I hated. I was a bit annoyed with Milia at first. Her personality completely threw me off, but her and Isaac just make an awesome team when it comes to lifting the mood of what should be, in all aspects, a depressing and gory anime series.
Ennis is my favorite female character. I won't give you the story on her, but if you watch the series you might see why. She ends up changing a lot by the end of episode 13, although you might see those changes earlier one since, like I said, the damn series time-jumps.
All in all, I give this series an 8.5/10. It got minus 1 because, like I said, some of the art wasn't too great, and minus 0.5 because of the time-jumping. But even with those factors, it was a pretty enjoyable series and if they ever made a sequel (we never did find out what happens with Huey), I would definitely watch it! :)
Finally started downloading watching anime again! I'm not watching anything new, just stuff I had before that I hadn't gotten around to watching yet. Namely...
Baccano!
It's an awesome series so far. I'm up to episode 7 :) The only thing I have a problem with is all the name-dropping. I'm horrible when it comes to remembering names, though I'm good at remembering their faces. I've only been able remember Ennis, Firo (my favorite, hahahaha), Luck, Isaac, Milia, Nice, Jacuzzi (uh... don't ask me why, apparently the creators thought the word sounded cool), and Maiza. Oh, and Eve and Dallas. The last names of all those people seem to escape me though, which is bad considering that it's about, like, mafias fighting and stuff, therefore surnames would come into play when figuring out who is working for which family. Ugh.
Anyway, I'll update next time about it. I don't have any cool screencaps to show you yet, so if I explained the series now it wouldn't be that interesting. It's definitely worth watching though! It's kind of bad that it took me this long to get around to watching it. Next anime series for me to watch will be Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpucho: Tou! Yayz. Then maybe I'll get around to watching the sequel :D
I don't think getting 100% on a test is possible for me (well... not anymore), especially on a test with 50 questions. And even though I fucking double-checked my shit, I still ended up with 94% (the same damn score as my last test for that class), which just goes to prove that going over your answers is a big, fat waste of time.
Seriously.
I could have spent those extra 15 minutes watching Soul Eater or something (which I plan to do soon, I assure you). But anyway, I promised Gintama screenshots last time (or... the time before that...), so here they are! Only 2 because I was capping random episodes for forum avatars.
Wait... no that's wrong. Gin-san isn't a soul reaper...
So, basically there is no plot for the series, although there are a few episodes where they actually reveal stuff about the character's pasts, but I kind of skipped through some of them. It's basically a plotless anime that provides you with enough randomness to keep you entertained :)
As for my favorite character, it's got to be Hijikata. I mean, he's got a mayonnaise obsession. How awesome is that? (Actually, it's disgusting, but surprisingly awesome at the same time.)
Plus, he looks super cool in his shinsengumi uniform, and it cracks me up every time his life is threatened by Sougo's mere existence, not to mention the fights he gets in with Gintoki.
And yes, that is a bowl of what I'm guessing used to be some sort of edible food with a shitload of mayonnaise to top it off. (Disgusting. But awesome.)
But don't take my word for it. I will pretty much watch any anime if it fits one or more of the following criteria:
- The lead character is hot (I realize judging whether a "cartoon" is attractive or not may be a bit on the otaku side, but STFU. I watch anime and I care about these things.)
- There's some sort of action in the series (people getting shot, people getting killed, people killing other people, people killing things that obviously don't exist in the real world, people going on crazy adventures to find their inner strength... and, uh... other shit like that)
- If the lead character (or one of the supporting characters in the group) is a girl, she does not make me want to shoot her in the face every time she fucking speaks because I hate the idiotic, cutesy anime chicks. (e.g. Rukia is cool, Orihime is not. End of story.)
- The show contains some sort of humorous content
- There's either ninjas, people with swords, or both.
So, if a series pretty much follows at least one of those rules (preferrably at least two), plot or no plot, I'd be willing to watch it. Especially the first one. The first one is usually what gets me.
Well, I'll update next time with Soul Eater. It's kind of, sort of interesting so far. I'm on episode 14 now :D So until then!
So, I finally got my CDs in the mail: Remapping the Human Soul and Pieces, Part One. They're so shinyyy *_* Especially the discs for RTHS... the CD faces are bling'd out (idk how to explain, but it's so shiny).
And uh... yeah... I've been thinking about redoing a few layouts here and there, I have one for Tablo but I stopped coding it partway (don't even know why I didn't finish...) and I was doing a new layout for Hotaru before that but I didn't finish coding that either. And I still need to do those profile pages for Super Junior (13 profiles, are you fucking joking?) What else... um, I had a few other sites coming up but I don't know what the hell I got approved for anymore nor do I really care. And I still need to move over all my sites to the new domain before July (or was it June?) when my domain expires.
Hahaha... this sucks.
I think I'm going to be making a new layout for Nabari no Oh, Miharu, and Yoite though... only because the anime series is out now and it's getting more popular and the multiple groups that were/are scanlating (scanlating = scan + translating) the series are actually updating O_O which is weird, because for a while Timcanpi started it but then stopped... and then quite a number of months passed. But I don't care, because the art for the series is so kick-ass I don't even mind reading it in Japanese... even though I really don't know wtf I'm reading... but I can understand some parts :) That's gotta count for something, right? Of course it does.
My brothers and mom will be in town on the 8th (in a couple days, woo~) but that kind of also sucks because that means I have to clean my room, my car, my mom's car, and anything else that they will bug me about D: Oh, and the bathroom, too, because we'll be sharing it. Haha, it'll be like the good ol' days!... the days when I run out of hot water and have to take a cold shower because both of them spend a long-ass time in the bathroom >_>;; I will wake up at the crack of dawn just to take my shower first.
Edit: I'm downloading xxxHolic right now (because xxxHolic Kei is out and I want to watch the prequel before the sequel). It's been downloading for approx. 13hrs now and it's 76.1% completed. Judging from that, it'll probably take at least 5 more hours to finish, unless by some chance a bunch of seeders pop out of nowhere and I finish it sooner (which is never really likely unless you're downloading Bleach or Naruto lol).
AND I ONLY HAVE $1 IN MY WALLET AND I FORGOT MY PIN-CODE FOR MY ACCOUNT AGAIN *headdesk*
